Back to Work

Well, it's a new year and we're getting back to work from our Christmas vacations. Drew has returned... and embarked on an odyssey to remove every remaining leaf from the campground... hoping to have the grounds beautified for some spring retreats.

Most of this first week was spent doing a little work at the bunker, splitting some wood, burning some leaves and brush, and getting some little odds and ends done on some problems with our waterlines. All in all it was a fairly low key week. We were blessed to have Bryan Irvin back with us as we mentioned in the last post.
This week was a cold one but not as bad as January usually is. We had a light flurry of snow on Monday, a welcome sight. When camp gets covered in snow it truly is beautiful, hopefully we'll get some snowfall and we'll have some pictures for you of it.

B-Rock Returns

There are many who pass through the gates of Camp Lurecrest only to be forgotten of as time passes by. Then there are those who forever are engrained into the very fabrics of the grounds as legends. One such man is Bryan Irvin... Counselor for 2 summers, Craft Shop Director for 1, then Maintenance for the following 2. He is a man of many titles... "Dirk the Dolphin Trainer", "Craft Shop Lady", "Big Perm", "B-Rizzle", "Assistant to the Maintenance Director", "Birvin", "Machisoyo", and "B-Rock".

Stories abound about this larger than life figure. He has worked at Lurecrest for the last 5 summers and was a full time worker from the Summer of 2004 until the Fall of 2006 as a laborer in the army of Christ. He is currently studying in Sebring, Florida at the Great Commission Bible Institute under the tutelage of Dr. Randall Smith.

For the last week he spent some of his Christmas Vacation time here at Lurecrest again... his home away from home. Of all the many talents he developed here at Lurecrest he is perhaps most famous for his ability to drive "Kong", the black truck. We were fortunate to have been blessed by his presence this week, something about being around him just makes life joyful. We here at Lurecrest salute our friend B-Rock, how we love him and will miss him until we see him again.
