Breakfast of Champions

Today Drew woke up a bit late,.. which happens. He finally arrived in the dining hall just as the rest of us were leaving. Fortunately, we were able to see what he decided to fix up in his hurry. What do you eat when you are so late for breakfast that you have to just grab something, chomp it down, and then hurry off to work? Well, Drew eats a Double Chicken Patty Sandwich Sandwiching BBQ and washes it down with a smooth "Rip It" energy drink. That'll wake you up, that's for darn sure. So far this breakfast of Drew's has been the most thought provoking amongst the maintenance team, so we've affectionately given it the title of wildest breakfast Drew has eaten all year... which says an aweful lot.

Today we moved a lot of logs... like a massive pile that would fill up at least a couple dump trucks. Jeremy and Nate split the larger stumps while Drew steadily filled up gators and stacked them, we'll show you the stacks of firewood we have later. Drew being who Drew is came up with this nifty way of stacking logs in a manner that allows for the most possible logs to be fit into the bed of the gator. We enjoyed his creativity so we thought ya'll might too, we even managed to convince him to do some calisthenics for you as well.

Jerry Martin and Scott Woods

We here at Lurecrest were visited by our Executive Director Jerry Martin and our Program Coordinator Scott Woods last friday as Jerry was teaching the book of Samuel to the ESBS. These are two men that have invested many years and much of their hearts into the ministry here at Lurecrest and we on the maintenance team wanted to make sure that you all see who they are.

This is Jerry Martin, Executive Director of Camp Lurecrest Ministries. He has been running Lurecrest for the last 10 years since it was handed over to him by the founder Alfred Garr Jr.
He and his wife Charlotte have been the driving force behind many of the wonderful changes that have been made at Lurecrest over the last few years as we move forward with some new programming geared towards year round ministries here. Jerry and Charlotte were campers the first summer at Lurecrest, have grown up here both as campers and as staff and have seen their children grow up here as well. We have been very blessed to have Jerry be our leader here at Lurecrest, he unceasingly presses for the base of our ministry to be a focus on the merits of Jesus Christ, that He would be glorified and illuminated by our efforts.
Scott Woods has been a staff member here on and off for the last 10+ years and now works full time in our Charlotte office to organize our programming and streamline our ministry's financial and administrative functions. He is an amazing disciple who has been graciously destroyed by the love of Christ and now is broken bread and poured out wine to our staff as he works diligently to get the logistical nightmare that a ministry is under control. We here at Lurecrest miss these men and were extremely excited to have them back on the grounds. Life just isn't the same without "Poppy" (Jerry) and "Scooter" (Scott).
