Gators

Dang, looks mean doesn't he... John Deere baby, that's right, spare no expense here at Lurecrest. These are our Gators, they get us around our property and are our primary means of transportation. We have two of them.

This would be the papa Gator... distinguishable by the 4 wheels in back. It would be a 6x4 wheel drive Gator, meaning that you can engage all 4 wheels in the back for power. He has a heck of a lot more speed and strength than his smaller counterpart. (It looks like Matt was a little angry at Drew in the background there too, ouch).

This little guy is the baby Gator, distinguishable by a smaller bed and only one set of wheels in the back. He isn't as powerful as the papa Gator, but can go anywhere nonetheless.

These two beasts see a lot of use and are used for hauling just about anything you can think of in them. During the off-season here they are full time maintenance vehicles but during camp sessions and retreat season they are used significantly in our Outdoor Adventure program. They are fun to drive and make life easier for us, praise God for our Gators.

Christmas at Lurecrest...

Merry Christmas from all of us here at Camp Lurecrest.

We hope you are all remembering the glory of Christ's coming while with your family. You are our family too, all bought by the same blood which He came to pour out that we might be freed from the law of sin and death. He came to die on our behalf, that we might be transposed into His kingdom and called His sons and given His righteousness. Hallelujah indeed. We have a tree this year... to all of our brothers and sisters in Christ, Merry Christmas.

The Death of the Gauntlet...

DUHN!!! DUHN!!!!! DUHHHN!!!!!!!!!!

Our ESBS teach Tom Phillips who is also one of our Outdoor Adventure Program's directors has been beggin us to dismantle the Gaunlet for some time now. We figured you would enjoy seeing some of the carnage that took place. Fortunately you are being spared from the odor and filth of a 6 month old mudpit.

What the Gauntlet was... the ultimate medieval test of a cabin's courage;

1st Challenge - Scale the Net of Cargo and Retrieve the Chalice of Antidote
2nd Challenge - Answer Rublub's Riddle
3rd Challenge - Traverse Narrow Bridge of Clobberness
4th Challenge - Swim through the Muddy Moat
5th Challenge - Conquer the Spool of Doom
6th Challenge - Fly the Gliding Galileo
7th Challenge - Storm the Castle Wall
8th Challenge - Solve the Puzzling Puzzle
9th Challenge - Climb Sir Jacobias' Ladder
10th Challenge - Rescue your Noble from Lure Lagoon
11th Challenge - Dodge the Bombardment of the Minion on your return
As you can tell, Big Nate didn't waste any time tearing this thing down. We took the "Backy" to it and 'no mas' Gauntlet. We here at Lurecrest have been so encouraged to see the success of the Gauntlet though and plan on making new program driven/theme oriented activities every year from now on. So we'll all have to see what we come up with this next year.

And oh yes, we kept the Spool of Doom, we will put it somewhere as a relic of the Gauntlet so that it's memory may be preserved.

Drew's Poopy Pipe

Sometimes here at Camp Lurecrest accidents happen which lead us to fix things that weren't inherently broken until we tried to fix something else. Today was one of those days for us, as Drew hit a small sewage line from the Barn while he was clearing some trenches so that we could patch some of the roads with asphalt. Whenever you see a piece of pipe with a hole in it, you know something bad has happened.

The good news is that now Drew Jones knows how to repair a sewer line, because Jeremy and Nate guided him through it so that they didn't have to get in the poopy hole. Yeah, bailing out sewage is a little gross, so hopefully this won't happen again. After Drew had bailed all the nastiness out someone unfortunately flushed a toilet and sent us a bunch of fresh poopy which Drew had to then remove again. Fun day huh?

What's your favorite color?

Alright, so we have found a few of these old signs and the ones that are on the cabins are getting a little nasty. We are hoping to "restore" these things to bring a little life to the campus. So, personally we are leaning towards the Red color on the left. From left to right the stains are "Red Mohagony/Red Oak", then "Cedar", then "Pickling White", then "Walnut", then "Ebony". Posted by Picasa

Not Santa

Posted by PicasaThis is Nathan Shuttlesworth, our cook here at Camp Lurecrest. He didn't seem to be too pleased with his white elephant gift from last night. That's not a Santa being dragged around, it's actually an Austin Powers doll.

Papa Gator

This is Jeremy Britton, who has been the camp "Intern" for the last year and a half. Nobody knows exactly what "Intern" means or entails, so we just make him do whatever needs to be done. Here he is riding the Papa Gator, one of our maintenance vehicles... it maxes out at about 18 mph, has a nice little bed for hauling mulch, gravel, leaves, tools... you name it.Posted by Picasa

Noah Larson.........................................the boss' kid

Our humble abode

Many people are unaware that Camp Lurecrest has some special facilities specifically dedicated to the maintenance and renovations of the grounds and buildings. Thus far the whereabouts and contents of these facilities have been a mystery to many, but we have decided to allow the general public a glimpse into our domain. This is our home, our corner of the mountain here at Lurecrest.

The Bunker...
legend has it that no tool returns from it...

The Shop... well... the "Office Formerly Known as Shop"... OFKAScomplete with outdoor covered deck for work projects... real nice

The legendary Burn Pile...

Well, these are our places of work, we alone know what goes in and out and even then we don't understand that much of the time. The Bunker and the OFKAS seemingly have minds and souls of their own. They are home nonetheless.

Welcome

Welcome to Camp Lurecrest Ministries... the maintenance website.

Camp Lurecrest is a ministry whose goal is to exalt Jesus Christ. We are a 58 acre facility in the mountains of Western North Carolina. During the summer we run children's week long camps with a staff of 80 young adults and 180 children attending each week. During the fall and spring we host men's, women's, youth group, high school, and college retreats. This year we have opened the Emmaus School of Biblical Studies here, a nine month bible school which uses the inductive method of study used by the ministry YWAM (Youth with a Mission).

Our job as the maintenance staff is to fix stuff... and we have fun doing it. So, this site is dedicated to all of our hard work... in attempts to share what is going on here at Camp Lurecrest throughout the winter, how we wish you could be here with us.
